What is Medical Waste?
The definition of medical waste is detailed in the Waste Disposal Ordinance. Medical waste includes any waste consisting wholly or partly of the following materials:
Used or Contaminated Sharps
Including needles, surgical blades, glass fragments and other sharp items that may cause puncture or cut injuries
Laboratory Waste
Waste from medical laboratories, including test samples, reagents, culture media, etc.
Human and Animal Tissues
Surgically removed tissues, organs, blood, body fluids and other human or animal biological materials
Infectious Materials
Materials containing pathogens or capable of spreading diseases, such as bacterial cultures, virus samples, etc.
Dressings
Bandaging materials used in medical procedures, such as gauze, bandages, adhesive tape, etc.
Other Waste
Other waste that does not fall into the above categories but has characteristics of medical waste
Responsibility Requirements
Medical waste generators, waste collectors, and waste treatment facility operators must comply with regulations and fulfill their responsibilities in the medical waste control scheme. Please refer to the Waste Disposal (Medical Wastes) (General) Regulation for relevant information.
Medical Waste Collection Service Process Guidelines
Detailed medical waste treatment process, ensuring each step meets the highest safety standards
1. Apply for "Medical Waste Generator Location Code"
If you do not have a "Location Code", please complete the "EPD EPD123B1" form and submit it to the EPD.
After successful application, you will receive the "Medical Waste Generator Location Code" issued by the EPD.
2. Prepare Required Documents and Sign Service Agreement
Please sign Hygiene First's service agreement and prepare the following documents:
- Signed service agreement
- Business registration certificate
- Medical waste generator location code

3. Schedule Collection Date
The Hygiene First team will coordinate with the client to schedule the medical waste collection date*.
* Generally collected within seven working days after booking
4. Wait for Collection Service
The Hygiene First team will bring government-specified containers and transport the medical waste bags that have been tied with a swan neck knot.
5. Sign and Stamp
Both parties sign and stamp the transport record (4-part form).

Generally requires 1-3 working days from collection to final disposal
